ACS580 General Purpose Drive overview

The ABB ACS580 is ABB's general purpose variable frequency drive for pumps, fans, conveyors, mixers and compressors. It covers roughly 0.75 to 500 kW at 200–480 V in wall-mounted, module and cabinet versions, and is designed so a standard application can be commissioned quickly with the assistant control panel.

Sizing an ACS580

Size by motor current, not just kW. Use the normal-duty rating for variable torque loads (centrifugal pumps and fans) and the heavy-duty rating for constant torque loads (conveyors, positive displacement pumps, mixers). Check ambient temperature, altitude, cable length and enclosure (IP21 or IP55) — each can require derating or options. Send us the motor nameplate and load type and we will size it for you.

Selection tips

Match drive output current to motor full-load current at the correct duty (normal vs heavy).
Choose IP55 for dusty or humid areas outside a panel.

Does the ACS580 need an external line reactor?

In most applications no, because it has a built-in harmonic mitigation choke. Very weak supplies or strict harmonic requirements may still need extra measures, which we can assess.

Yes. Select the drive by its heavy-duty current rating for constant torque loads such as conveyors and positive displacement pumps.

What is the difference between ACS580 and ACS880?

The ACS580 is the general purpose drive with simple setup. The ACS880 is the industrial drive with DTC motor control, wider ratings and options for demanding applications such as cranes, winders and regenerative duty.
